Posted by: Matt Bishop
Date: Mar 7, 2011 4:41 pm
Folks,
In class, I was asked to extend the due date for Lab Exercise #8 to Thursday so people could ask questions about it on Tuesday, and I agreed to do so. So . . .
New due date for Lab Exercise #8: Thursday, March 10, at 11:55PM (that is, the usual time).
I have adjusted the due date accordingly.
Hope this helps,
Matt Bishop

Lab This Week
Posted by: Matt Bishop
Date: Feb 6, 2011 9:49 pm
Folks,
There is no lab exercise this week because of Thursday's midterm. I recommend you use the time in the lab to practice the material from the lab exercises you already turned in.
The next lab exercise will be out sometime this week, after the midterm.
Hope this helps,

Update to Lab Exercise 1
Posted by: Matt Bishop
Revised: Jan 5, 2011 3:17 pm
Date: Jan 4, 2011 12:13 am
Folks,
Some people reported problems with Lab Assignment 1 in the computer labs. I made the following changes to the assignment to deal with them. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE SUBMITTED IT, DO NOT REDO IT -- YOU ARE FINE. Also, if you installed EndNote on your computer and then did (or do) the labs, only change 1 applies; none of the others do.
1) Changed wording to say to get the files from SmartSite, not class.dir
2) Handled the missing PsychINFO(CSA) filter (I asked you to pick any CSA filter) and the U Calif-Davis database (I asked you to pick any other). This arose only in the computer labs on campus.
3) Run EndNote in Word.com whether you used Microsoft Word 2003 or 2007 in the computer labs.
4) If the "Nature" style comes out looking different than what’s in the handout, that is fine; the important thing is for the references to appear at the end of the document.
The new version is uploaded to the Assignment area (replacing the old one).
Also, a number of students had problems uploading Project.enl to SmartSite. The specific symptom is that the upload appears to work, but the uploaded file has size 0KB and does not work. If this happens to you, it’s a bug in SmartSite. To get it fixed, I need to be able to reproduce it, so please send me your Project.enl file and a description of what happened when you uploaded it; what command you used and what the response was. I’ll try to upload it. If it works, great -- and if not, I can report the bug (and save the file you sent for grading).
Hope this helps,
Matt Bishop
