Folks,
As proposals are due Friday, I am cancelling class both today and Friday to give you more time to work on them.
Next Monday, please be prepared to give a 10- to 15- minute talk about your proposal, especially the planned approach. But we’ll do this next week (January 31) so it won’t interfere with your proposal writing.
I’ll be on the class Zoom just in case anyone has questions.
Hope this helps, and stay safe,
Matt Bishop

Folks,
A couple of late-breaking announcements:
- The minimum team size is 4. There is no upper limit, but try not to go over 6 team members.
- As a reminder, the Information Security Office has proposed some projects. Please let me know if you are interested in any of them or are bidding on them. For those, and those only, a team of size 3 or more is acceptable. If you want to bid on both external projects and ISO projects, your team should be 4 or more (or, if it is 6, for the ISO projects, you could split into two teams of 3).
- Attached are slides from the managers of the INSuRE project about what is expected. It's basically what we went over in class, but it does contain detailed instructions on using EasyChair to submit your bids. On slide 2, there is a comment about a CFP coming out in March 2022. That is not out, and does not apply to us.
- Again, the submission site is at EasyChair, and the URL is see Canvas for link
Hope this helps, and stay safe,
Matt Bishop

Hi, folks,
I have just posted 6 proposed projects from the UC Davis Information Security Office (ISO). Go to the home page for the class in Canvas, and click on “Projects from the UC Davis Information Security Office”. Please see if any of them interest you, and feel free to submit a bid on one (or more) of them. If you do, follow the instructions for bids, except upload it only to Canvas and not to INSuREHub. Also, let me know you have done so. Each team must submit at least 3 bids, so I can count any you submit to the ISO.
I have also posted a list of teams and team numbers, and the projects each team is interested in (by team and by project). Each team must have at least 3, and no more than 5, team members. I hope this enables teams with less than 3 members, and students who have not yet joined a team, to hook up together.
Hope this helps, and stay safe,
Matt Bishop

Folks,
From the INSuRE managers. Try to Zoom in if you can; it's a chance to talk directly to the sponsors.
Also, bids are now due on Tuesday, January 18. The Information Security Office is also preparing proposals they are willing to sponsor; I should have those by Monday and will post them to canvas, with an announcement, as soon as I get them. The link to the attached PDF file the message refer to is on Canvas.
Hope this helps, and stay safe,
Matt Bishop
==================
Hello All,
Welcome to the Spring 2022 session of INSuRE.
Here is the official notification and logistics of the Open House this Friday, 1/14/2022. Technical Directors (TDs) are to be assigned breakout rooms. Please be in the Zoom meeting promptly by 1:30pm Eastern Time, but please feel free to be as early as 1:20pm as the waiting room will be available.
Rules for the Open House
- When you join the Zoom session on Friday, you need to change your display name to University/Agency/Lab(Group#)_FullName.
- Example: CSUSB(1)_JordanHazelip
- Note: For your convenience, a video attached to this announcement in Canvas titled “How to rename in zoom.mov” will show you how to do this if you are not familiar with this process.
- Technical Directors: You have a total of 1.5 hours to present your problems/projects.
- For TDs with multiple projects, please be ready to speak on each of your projects offered this term.
- Students: You may freely move between breakout rooms.
- Students should have a way to communicate with each other outside of Zoom to discuss rooms to switch to or to bring attention to. (e.g., Slack, Teams, Text., etc.)
- We are asking once you are in a session that you stay in the session for a meaningful amount of time. (e.g., 5 to 10 minutes)
Friday Meeting Agenda
- 1:30pm Eastern Time
- Introduction
- Explanation of Rules
- Student Expectations
-
- 1:50pm to 3:20pm Eastern Time
- Students may use this time to move around the environment from Technical Director to Technical Director on their own. Students are encouraged to do so as a group.
- Breakout rooms will be named according to the Technical Director. As some Technical Directors will be hosting multiple projects, they will be discussing multiple projects at the same time.
- All project titles in the attached PDF are active hyperlinks to the projects. Please familiarize yourselves with the project descriptions to make the most of your time as students with the Technical Directors.
- Note: Any addition or removal of projects will be documented actively on the INSuRE Problems for Spring 2022 page. The PDF on Canvas may become outdated due to this fluid nature of the additions and removal of projects.
- 3:20pm to 3:30pm Eastern Time
- Next Steps Discussion (Bid Submissions, Student Orientation Date) with Jordan
Zoom Issues
- If you are having difficulty coming into the Open House session, please email Jordan at jhazelip@caecommunity.org. They will have their email open and monitoring for concerns about being stuck in the waiting room or needing the Zoom link resent.
