Abstract
Ten years ago, computer security was an arcane discipline that many academics did not see as an interesting or deep research area. Today, that perception has changed. Information assurance and computer security touch every aspect of our lives, and the interconnections with more traditional academic disciplines such as analysis of algorithms, operating systems, and network protocols have convinced even the most hardened skeptic that the academy has a place for computer security. In this talk, we will examine the changes in computer security, how it has touched our lives and our society over the past ten years, and speculate what the next ten years will bring.
