- Brooks, Frederick P., The Mythical Man-Month,
Addison-Wesley (1975); republished in 1995. ISBN 0201835959.
This book is a classic in the field of software engineering.
It discusses the development of the operating system for the
IBM 360 mainframe. Brooks' essays are delightful and very
educational. They are also fun to read!

- Levy, Steven, Hackers; Heroes of the Computer Revolution,

This book describes the early days of the computer culture.
It focuses on the people, as opposed to the inventions.
It illuminates true "hackers" as opposed to people who
attack computers.
