I have posted the final exam scores (details available on Gradescope) and class final grades on Canvas.

Please look them over, checking addition and so forth.

I must submit these grades at 4:00pm today, so please do so promptly.

It has been a delight teaching this class, and having you all as students. I wish you all the best in the coming years and the adventure of life.

Hi, folks,

All grades (except for those of the final exams) and homework and quiz answers, as well as lecture outlines and such, are posted on Canvas.

Please check them and, in particular, be sure the points are added correctly.

If you find mistakes, please let me know as soon as possible. I can make changes through Monday. After that, I may not be able to.

I will announce when final exam grades, and course grades, are posted. Expect them some time after Monday next week.

Hi, folks,

Two more announcements:

1. Office hours this week: today. 4–5pm; also I may be around from 2–3pm but cannot guarantee it. Tuesday: 10:30–11:30am; 2–3pm. Note there will not be office hours tomorrow from 12–1.
2. I have reopened all quizzes until Wednesday night. If you are missing some, or need to redo any, go for it. I will not be able to reopen them after that, and will post the answers on Thursday morning.

Hi, folks,

This is the first of several announcements about the end of the class, and what you need to do.

1. Check that the addition for each homework is correct. We scored each question individually; so you can compute your score for the homework, and verify I entered it correctly. If not, please let me know immediately!
2. I have re-opened all quizzes until June 5 at 11:59pm, so if you missed some quizzes or didn’t get any right, you can redo them. Remember, it’s 10% of your grade!
3. I posted a report, slides, and notes on the ILOVEYOU worm. You might find them interesting.

I am grading homework 3 and the extra credit for homework 4, and the TAs are grading homework 4. We will post results as soon as this is done.

I expect to post a couple more of these end of quarter announcements, so please stay tuned!

Hello, everyone,

I will be out of town today. I hav recorded today’s lecture, which is on robust programming, and it is available in the Media Gallery.

It is dated May 28, 2026 (Kaltura Capture). The Robust Programming handout is available on the interesting readings link on the home page for the class.

I have also posted a final study guide and some sample final exam questions.

Hi, everyone,

Due to some questions about how the reference program was handling errors, I added error handling information to the assignment (no change beyond that), and am extending the due date to Friday, May 15.

You do not have to match the error messages exactly, but you do need to get the gist of them. For example, if you name a user who does not exist, your error message must indicate the user does not exist, either as “x: no such user” or “x: user does not exist” (preferably the former). But if you print something that does not indicate that (like a usage message that doesn’t indicate the user does not exist), that’s incorrect.

Also, all quizzes that have been due (not the ones due Wednesday!) have their answers uploaded too.

And please remember I may not be able to make my usual office hour (from 12:10-1:00pm) tomorrow, so I will have one from 4:00-4:50pm as well.

I also put up quizzes through May 1. They are due on May 6, at 11:59pm, but I encourage you to do them before — the midterm exam is May 6 also, and they might help you review for it.
