Puzzle 9: October 14, 2019

A few days ago, the Telegraph, a major newspaper in the United Kingdom, published an article about the decreasing use of cash. The article focused on Sweden, where cash is disappearing.1 For example, the Swedes use an app called Swish that “allows instant cash transfers using just a mobile phone number”.2

  1. What are the advantages of a cashless society over one that uses cash?
  2. What are problems of a cashless society that do not exist for a society that uses cash?
  3. Would using block chains solve any of these problems?
